Originally released by Belgium's Triangle Records in 1971, Irish Coffee's sole album from their original incarnation has long been one of those records that makes collectors reach rather nervously for their wallets. And with good reason - this is seriously heavy early-'70s rock with huge guitars, Hammond organ and enough raw energy to explain why originals have been hunted for decades.
Irish Coffee grew out of The Voodoo, a Belgian group originally playing material by Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Who and The Kinks, before manager Louis de Vries renamed them and pushed the band towards their own material. William Souffreau's powerful vocals and guitar sit right at the centre of the album, with the band landing somewhere around Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and the heavier end of late-'60s/early-'70s underground rock without simply copying any of them.
A high-quality Guerssen reissue housed in a sturdy sleeve reproducing the original artwork, complete with OBI and an insert featuring liner notes and photos. A proper heavy-rock obscurity from 1971 - and considerably cheaper than hunting down an original!
