A surf record from the Canary Islands? Absolutely - and not one that sticks to the usual formula. On their debut album, Las Arañas del Neptuno stretch instrumental surf far beyond sun, sand and reverb tanks, sending it straight into the worlds of science fiction, horror movies and strange late-night radio transmissions.

Most tracks take their time to unfold, weaving together shimmering surf guitars with mysterious Middle Eastern melodies, cinematic atmospheres and occasional flashes of Spanish flavour. Just when you think you've figured out where a tune is heading, the band throws in another twist - even a bluesy number somehow feels perfectly at home among all the twang and echo.

Rather than chasing one riff after another, "Ride the Madam Psychosis Radio Waves" creates a mood that pulls you in deeper with every spin. It's imaginative, atmospheric and refreshingly different from the average surf release - proof that there's still plenty of unexplored territory left in instrumental music.
