Double Exposure is the new album by British musician James Hoare, known for his work with Veronica Falls, Ultimate Painting and Proper Ornaments. Under his solo alias Penny Arcade, Hoare delivers a collection that feels even rawer, more spontaneous and more deconstructed than his 2024 debut Backwater Collage. Recorded mostly on a 16-track tape machine, the album leans heavily on vintage drum machines, warm organ textures and minimal arrangements that leave space for mood and atmosphere. Although guitars step back for the first time, tracks like "Regrets" still showcase Hoare"s expressive playing. The album weaves between psychedelic folk, hazy Lo-Fi experiments, blue-eyed soul moments and analogue soundscapes reminiscent of Syd Barrett"s restless creativity or White Fence"s tape-based improvisational approach. Songs such as "Worst Trip", "Rear View Mirror" or the dreamlike "We Used To Be Good Friends" feel like spontaneous snapshots - unpolished in the best way, rich in texture and melodic detail.
