From the dead-vibrant city of Oslo comes the disreputable enfant terrible Space Punk ensemble of Pirate Love. A black gun filled with to the brim with flowers of exquisite and toxic proportions, aiming the barrel to the center of all mediocrity and fake realism, spitting out bullets with glorious vengeance. The high priests of the Vodoun Club are ready to make hearts ache, hips shake and ears explode with their furious brand of psychedelic high velocity rock n roll. Pirate Love came together in the early summer of 2005 and quickly found a common cause to cross-polinate the wild, frenzied sounds and melodies of '60s US-garage bands like the Seeds and the Music Machine with the nihilistic and decadent feel of early '70s punk. Having played gigs with the Black Lips and 120 Days, to mention a few, they signed a deal with Oslo-based label Kong Tiki Records and released their acclaimed "Death Surf Negro Spirituals" EP in November 2007. Dagbladet, the second largest newspaper in Norway, gave it 5/6 and said it was "exceedingly fresh" and reviewing the leading track, "A Kiss Hello" as "one of the songs of the year". November also saw them touring Scandinavia with the legendary Sonny Vincent of original NYC punk band the Testors and his current resurrection of the band. The video for early single "Laughing Gas" even got A-listed on MTV around this time and the band made several appearances for the glossy corporation. February saw the release of their debut LP "Black Vodoun Space Blues", and reviews and publicity from the Norwegian press were extraordinary, giving the fact that it wasn't yet another gloomy singer/songwriter, but a true rock n roll band with both soul and vision. Most of the leading newspapers in the nation gave it 5/6 including Aftenposten, Nordlys, Bergens Tidene, Adresseavisa and Spirit. The album was mixed by amongst others, Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh) and Marcus Forsgren (Lionheart Brothers) and was produced by the bands own wunderkid Milton Von Krogh. The band toured extensively throughout the year, playing all the biggest festivals in Norway including spots at both the Oya Festival in Oslo and the Hove Festival (where they shared stage with The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and ending their tour at the Gutter Island festival in Denmark where they shared bill with the Fuzztones and the Cynics (vocalist Michael Kastelic being one of the bands biggest fans).
