Forty years after former Prisoners man James Taylor kicked off his solo career with a killer version of Herbie Hancock's "Blow up", he's back on Acid Jazz - and for the first time strips things down to a trio! Alongside Theo Carasco on drums and Orlando Flemming on upright bass, Taylor digs deep into the early '70s sounds of Les McCann, Hampton Hawes and Lonnie Liston Smith, with his Fender Rhodes firmly planted right in the middle of things.

But don't expect some polite little jazz exercise! Rhodes, Hammond organ and Solina string synth bubble away over a seriously groovy rhythm section, Aref Durvesh adds tablas and gospel-trained Liz Jai joins in on three tracks. There's a take on Vince Guaraldi's "Lucy & Linus", "Thus Sprach Zarathustra", the cosmic groove of "Aref's space" and the vocal title track. Soul-jazz, funky keyboards and cosmic touches from a guy who has known his way around a Hammond since most of us were still buying Prisoners records. Groovy as hell!
