A slightly mysterious one from Spain! "A Compendium" brings together eight tracks by Joel Jefferson Stalin, moving through wonderfully off-centre psychedelic rock, folk-rock and melodic indie sounds without ever settling comfortably into one particular box.

There's a distinctly late-'60s/early-'70s flavour running through much of the record, but this isn't some straightforward retro-psych exercise. Acoustic textures, hazy melodies and occasionally stranger turns give the songs their own peculiar character, with enough rough edges to keep things well away from polished modern psych.

Released by FOLC Records and definitely one for the more adventurous corners of the Soundflat shelves. Strange name, strange little record - and rather good!
