An unlikely trio of white-trash street musicians from Indiana, Michigan and Winnipeg came together in Los Angeles to record a two-song slab of heartfelt rock 'n' roll. Behind the mysterious moniker THE NORTH HOLLYWOOD PHANTOMS are Pat Todd (The Rankoutsiders, The Lazy Cowgirls), Loren Molinare (The Dogs/Detroit, Little Caesar, Slamdinistas), and Richard Duguay (The Beautiful Decline, Personality Crisis, Duff McKagan's band). Molinare describes how this recording project developed: 'I was talking to Pat one day, and in our chat, he mentioned that he wanted to 'live before he died'. I was struck deeply by that phrase, and a few weeks later, I came up with the music for what I thought could be a song based around what Pat had said. I called him to remind him of what he'd said, and the song 'I Wanna Live Before I Die' was born. 'Enter Richard Duguay who produced lots of records, and we started laying down the song at his Into the Black Studio with Pat on vocals, Richard on guitar, bass and background vocals, and myself on guitars and background vocals. 'It was Pat's idea to do a version of The Rolling Stones' song 'Let Me Go' from their Emotional Rescue album. The goal was to see if we could keep our version close to the vibe of theirs but put our own stamp on it.' When it came down to what they might call this trio of rambling street rockers, Molinare & Todd came up with the moniker 'The North Hollywood Phantoms'. With Richard's Into the Black Studio and Loren's rehearsal space being in the North Hollywood area (as well as Pat and Richard both living there), it became apparent this should the name of the project. Ladies and Gentlemen, we present The North Hollywood Phantoms!
