Welcome back to the wonderfully fucked-up universe of the Butthole Surfers! Originally released in 2002, "Humpty Dumpty LSD" is a glorious collection of rare recordings, alternate versions and assorted sonic madness from the band's legendary '80s underground years. And anyone familiar with Gibby Haynes, Paul Leary and their fellow Texas freaks will know that this is definitely not music for the faint-hearted!

Forget conventional punk rock. The Butthole Surfers took the whole damn thing apart and rebuilt it with screaming guitars, psychedelic noise, bizarre tape experiments, twisted humour and enough musical insanity to frighten the neighbours. Tracks like "One Hundred Million People Dead", "I Love You Peggy", "Eindhoven Chicken Masque" and "I Hate My Job" offer a fascinating trip through the band's gloriously unpredictable early universe. Also included is the alternate "Sherman (Backass Alt.)", an early version connected to their later "Hairway To Steven" period.

Now back on double vinyl courtesy of Matador Records, "Humpty Dumpty LSD" is a terrific reminder of just how fearless, inventive and utterly deranged the Butthole Surfers were in their prime. Somewhere between psychedelic punk, industrial-strength noise, underground art rock and a particularly unpleasant acid trip. Bloody essential for anyone who likes their rock'n'roll seriously twisted!
