Marshall Crenshaw has been digging through the vaults, and thankfully he found considerably more than a box of old receipts! "The bootleg sounds of Marshall Crenshaw: 1984-87" collects previously unreleased demos, live recordings and other lost studio material from one of his strongest periods.

Alongside early demo versions of songs that would later appear on his third and fourth albums are live recordings from 1986/87 and assorted treasures rescued from Crenshaw's archive. There's even a version of Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day" featuring E Street Band men Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg. It's proper archive stuff rather than another bloody greatest-hits collection - rougher around the edges and a chance to hear Crenshaw's immaculate power-pop songwriting while the songs were still being knocked into shape. One for fans, certainly, but with enough hooks to make converts out of the uninitiated too!
