Stone Garden came from Lewiston, Idaho, and in 1969 released just one impossibly rare 45, "Oceans Inside Me"/"Stop My Thinking". Only around 300 copies were originally pressed, but that single has since become a serious cult item among collectors of late-'60s heavy psych and proto-metal.

"Stone Garden" collects both versions of the monstrous "Oceans Inside Me" alongside recordings made between 1969 and 1971 that remained unreleased until Rockadelic finally dug them out in the '90s. This is seriously heavy stuff for its time: huge fuzz guitars, primitive drums, acid-rock weirdness and lumbering riffs that already point towards the doom and metal sounds that were just around the corner. Blue Cheer and early Black Sabbath are obvious reference points, with "Assembly Line" in particular sounding remarkably heavy for 1969.

Raw, loud and gloriously unsophisticated US heavy psych from a bunch of Idaho teenagers who clearly had no interest in taking the gentle route into psychedelia.
