After three English-language albums under the name Memphis Electronic, French underground veteran Didier Balducci finally steps out under his own name - and sings in French for the first time! Anyone familiar with his work in The Dum Dum Boys, XYZ or NON! will know that this isn't likely to be some polite little chanson affair. Thank fuck for that!
"Le Renoncement" is a rather peculiar project, released alongside a book of the same name. Its twelve songs take their titles and lyrics from the book's twelve chapters, dealing with subjects such as love, food, music, drugs, television, work and unemployment. And Balducci provides the suitably twisted soundtrack with his familiar arsenal of fuzz guitars, analogue synthesizers, strange drum machines and swirling space organ.
A wonderfully odd collision of French-language underground rock, primitive electronics and fuzzed-out garage attitude. Not exactly your everyday rock'n'roll record, but then Didier Balducci has never been particularly interested in doing things the ordinary way. Another curious little beast from Mono-Tone Records!
