The Dolly Rocker Movement dive head-first into the psychedelic '60s here, and bloody hell, they go deep! "A purple journey into the mod machine" is packed with proper pop songs, but they're buried beneath swirling layers of lysergic psych, sparkling guitars and all manner of colourful studio weirdness. This isn't some half-arsed retro tribute - these guys clearly swallowed the whole damn acid-soaked era and came out the other side with their own songs intact.

The production is lush without sanding off the edges, and the whole LP has been put together as a proper trip, with the songs flowing into each other rather than sounding like a random bunch of psychedelic exercises. Dreamy, melodic, strange and wonderfully '60s-minded - the sort of record where the hooks get into your head first and the purple smoke follows shortly afterwards. Turn on, tune in and all that!
