Fish Narc turns towards straight-up guitar music on "Uncle", an eleven-song collection of melodic rock and power pop that trades much of the darker atmosphere of his earlier work for something warmer and more direct.
Recorded and produced by Alex Farrar, the album balances raw guitars with carefully worked-out melodies and a distinctly DIY feel. There are echoes of Paul Westerberg and The Replacements in the songwriting, alongside the influence of SST, K Records and the Pacific Northwest punk scene that Fish Narc grew up around. The songs deal with getting older, looking back and figuring out where you fit without becoming overly sentimental about any of it.
Catchy, slightly ragged and full of guitar hooks - "Uncle" finds Fish Narc sounding less interested in genres and scenes and more interested in simply writing really good rock'n'roll songs.
