SLOWEY AND THE BOATS - Beneath an amber moon LP

"Beneath an Amber Moon" is a sound painting of one of the most beautiful spots on this earth, a place where Slowey and The Boats have never been. These sophisticated island-tinged musicians dream of one day playing their tropical melodies under the swaying palms of Waikiki, but for now, their quest for the spirit of Aloha remains far across the sea from Hawai'i.

This is the second full length album released by Slowey and the Boats, and it's an eclectic pastiche of songs spanning more than a century, from the 1860s to the swinging 1970s. Recordings were made in the old-fashioned style — the whole band performed live, together, at the same time. What the band and production team captured that night in the winter of 2018 sounds just as it was played — with no overdubs or studio tricks.

Most of the tunes were cut at Retro City Studios in Philadelphia, and two additional tunes, Sand and Estrellita, were laid down at Kawari Sound Recordings in Wyncote, PA.

Slowey and the Boats have become a mainstay Philadelphia's eclectic music scene. In 2012 band leader Isaac Stanford got some of his closest friends together to play the steel guitar instrumentals that he had been learning, and the rest is Philadelphia nightclub history.

The band is busy around Philadelphia and has been featured monthly at the legendary local music bar Dawson Street Pub in a residency that has now lasted more than five years. In addition to Stanford on the console steel guitar, the band is comprised of David Streim on keys, Nate Skiles on guitar, Michael Hlatky on Bass, and Fred Berman on drums.

"Beneath an Amber Moon" features Shannon McGill on vocals and Tim Sonnefeld on guitar and latin percussion. The band would like to thank Vincent Minervino and Magdalena O'Connell at Hi-Tide Recordings for all their hard work and inspiration. Special thanks to David Wilby, proprietor of Dawson Street Pub, for providing a venue for them and many other Philly artists.
