Since their formation in 1988, The Telescopes have been following a trajectory all of their own. Vaguely situated somewhere between noise, space rock, dream pop and psychedelia, Stephen Lawrie"s band has consistently pushed the boundaries of their sound and remained firmly outside established trends. Static Charge is already the group"s 19th studio album and, at the same time, their eighth release on Tapete Records - another impressive chapter in their restless, genre-spanning history. Following a three-month tour of the UK and Europe, The Telescopes return with a compact, focused work. Seven songs, mostly recorded live, unleash a raw, electrified energy: primitive beats, outsider sounds and deeply vibrating frequencies combine to form a defiant sound that deliberately challenges the absurdities of the present. Recorded and produced within two months at their own Butterfly House Studio in Shropshire, Static Charge presents itself as stripped-back, direct and uncompromising.
