A suitably creepy collaboration between Ghost Highway and Chaputa! Records, "The Haunted Jukebox" collects 14 tracks of garage punk, surf, action rock and dirty rock'n'roll, all united by a taste for the darker and stranger side of things.

The cast is excellent: The Boatsmen, The Chuck Norris Experiment, Crater Snakes, Jake Starr & The Delicious Fullness, The Langhorns, The Maharajas, Maervel, Thee Montgomery Wards, The Mourning After, OXYS, The Riptide Rats, Sator, Scumbag Millionaire and Upploppet. Musically it runs from fuzzed-up garage and Swedish punk'n'roll to creepy instrumental surf, with The Langhorns' "The Mummy's Groove" and The Riptide Rats' spaghetti-western flavoured "Bone Dancer" providing particularly atmospheric detours.

Made with Halloween in mind, perhaps, but thankfully this isn't some novelty Halloween record. It's rough, loud and weird enough to work all year round - the soundtrack to a battered jukebox in a bar you probably shouldn't have entered after midnight.
