The Spyrals are back on Fuzz Club, and this time the Los Angeles trio have stripped the whole damn thing down! "Heavy smoke" was recorded in summer 2025 at drummer Dash Borinstein's poolside studio in the San Fernando Valley, straight to 8-track reel-to-reel and with the band playing together in the room. Most songs grew out of a Jeff Lewis riff and a jam, with first or second takes often ending up on the record and no instrumental overdubs to tidy up the mess.

The result throws all the good Spyrals stuff into one filthy pot - garage jangle, bluesy fuzz, repetitive psych grooves and a little sun-baked country - but sounds rawer, looser and more immediate than before. Minimal effects, plenty of groove and absolutely no studio polish getting in the bloody way. Psychedelic garage rock that sweats rather than stares at its shoes - just plug in, lock into the groove and let the tape roll!
