Black Mekon have spent more than fifteen years turning blues, garage rock and punk into a filthy little racket of their own. "13 Songs About Monsters" takes that formula straight into horror territory, with thirteen tracks built around fuzz, primitive rhythms and the band's trademark lo-fi attack.

There are traces of Jon Spencer, The Scientists, Black Lips and Kid Congo in the mix, but Black Mekon keep everything rough enough to avoid sounding too polished. The songs are short, sharp and drenched in trashy atmosphere - exactly the sort of thing that works when Halloween records need a little more bite than novelty sound effects and fake screams.

Pressed on super-limited glow in the dark vinyl, this one looks the part as much as it sounds it. Perfect for late-night spins, dim lights and anyone who prefers their garage rock covered in cobwebs rather than chrome.
