Paper Jam continue their wonderfully shambolic journey with "This And That", ten songs of jangly guitar pop filled with lovesick melodies, playful lyrics and just the right amount of homemade looseness.
There's a strong Texas indie-pop heart underneath it all, but the musical route takes some enjoyable detours through Dunedin, Glasgow and Olympia. Bright guitars and irresistible chord changes meet shakers, chiming cymbals and occasional girl-group touches, giving the record a sound that's simultaneously scruffy and carefully arranged. At times it even has the cheerful, slightly surreal quality of the theme tune to some long-forgotten children's TV show.
Catchy without being polished and charming without trying too hard - colourful DIY jangle pop with plenty of little hooks hiding in the corners.
10 songs, 33 RPM.
