Cincinnati's The Drin go further down the rabbit hole with "I Lost My Way For Centuries", a sprawling hour-long double album that turns their already murky post-punk into something stranger, darker and far more cinematic. Feel It themselves describe it rather wonderfully as something like Amon Dueuel II covering Neil Young, and that's actually not a bad starting point.

Across 23 tracks, guitars, bass, drums and synths are joined by tenor and alto sax, harmonica, 12-string acoustic guitar and even bouzouki. The saxophone in particular drifts through the record like a guide, while dub, krautrock, psychedelia and folk seep into The Drin's skeletal post-punk. Some pieces resemble proper songs, others feel more like fragments, transmissions or half-remembered soundtrack music.

Recorded largely by the band themselves and mastered by Matthew J. Barnhart, "I Lost My Way For Centuries" is deliberately disorientating stuff - atmospheric, hypnotic and occasionally beautiful, with the feeling that the whole record has somehow washed up from another time.

Black vinyl DoLP in matte gatefold sleeve.
