With "Green Screens", Dust Lovers move away from the sci-fi and fantasy themes of earlier releases and turn their attention to the increasingly strange reality surrounding us.
Musically, the album also marks a shift. While still rooted in underground rock, the band incorporates synths, sequencers, samples and drum machines, drawing inspiration from late 70s and early 80s new wave, post-punk and synth-punk. The result is a darker, more mechanical sound that recalls artists such as DEVO, Suicide, Tuxedomoon and Tone On Tail, while retaining a modern edge that brings to mind bands like Viagra Boys and Fat Dog.
The songs explore themes of digital anxiety, artificial intelligence, corporate control and life in a world where reality often feels stranger than fiction. Despite the weighty subject matter, the album remains highly engaging, driven by strong rhythms, memorable hooks and an inventive approach to songwriting.
A compelling mix of post-punk, new wave and synth-driven underground rock with plenty of atmosphere and attitude.
