MOPHING PEOPLE is a Japanese alternative rock band formed in 2021 by Makoto Miyoshi and Litsuko (ex-SHONEN KNIFE). Their first release, a digital EP, reached number one in the alternative charts of iTunes. The duo also released a cassette tape via Gerpfast Records in Indonesia and a song on the 'Japan Is Loud' compilation. Presented here by TOPSY-TURVY RECORDS is 'mppp' (LP and CD), the first full album of their musical pieces containing all these fabulous tunes. 'She', a great melodious guitar pop song is the first track of this album and followed by 'We can make it right' that sounds somewhat like the early days SMASHING PUMPKINS with heavy big muff on 16 beats. 'I Don't Care' is the most alternative sounding tune of the album with complex noises intertwined and was included in the Adult Swim compilation 'Japan is Loud' of the American Cartoon Network. 'Anytime' is a melancholic song that sounds a lot like UK guitar rock. The A-side finishes with 'Be Myself', which contains the melodious essence of power pop as well as the characteristic sense of the 90's grunge & alternative rock such as MUDHONEY. The B-side starts off with the powerful and addictive 'Love Is A Lie', a rocking energetic grunge sound-song with cynical lyrics. '???????' with a title inspired by THE BEATLES''Hello, Goodbye' and a fantastic guitar-pop-sound is the album's only song with Japanese lyrics. 'Never Ending Song' is a melodic pop/rock-tune that conveys a warm and comfortable feeling. 'Fades Away' was the very first song created by MOPHING PEOPLE and demonstrates the basic musical line of this unit, Litsuko's vocals that somehow fit perfectly in the noisy and roaring guitar sound of Makoto Miyoshi. A very melodic 4-chord-tune, alternative pop at its best with a flavor of Dinosaur Jr. and Weezer. 'It's All Right', the finale uses SONIC YOUTH-like mysterious guitar chords and RADIOHEAD-like variety. MOPHING PEOPLE create today's version of an explosive roaring noisy guitar sound containing plenty of the essence of the 90's and 00's sounds.
