"Do To The Beast" marked The Afghan Whigs' return in 2014 after a sixteen-year absence from the studio. Rather than trying to recreate their '90s sound, Greg Dulli pushed the band into darker and more cinematic territory while keeping the volatile mixture of hard rock, soul and emotional intensity that had always set them apart.

Heavy guitars, sinister grooves and dramatic arrangements sit alongside Dulli's obsession with soul and R&B, resulting in songs that can move from restrained and seductive to explosive within moments. Tracks such as "Algiers", "Matamoros" and "The Lottery" show a band sounding rejuvenated rather than reunited for nostalgia's sake.

The album also marked The Afghan Whigs' return to Sub Pop, the label that originally signed them as its first band from outside the Pacific Northwest. A powerful second chapter for one of the most distinctive American alternative rock bands of the '90s.
