Chicago's Daddy's Boy return with "Four Hombres", pushing the frantic hardcore attack of their debut into even stranger and more abrasive territory. The band themselves once described what they do as "questionably hardcore", and that still fits - the intensity is there, but the songs are far too twisted to follow the usual genre rules.

Recorded at Chicago's Electrical Audio with Greg Norman, the album is a dense collision of jagged guitars, unpredictable riffs and a rhythm section that rarely gives you a chance to get comfortable. There's something almost mathematical about the way the songs twist and turn, but Daddy's Boy never sacrifice the physical punch underneath all that complexity.

Lyrically, "Four Hombres" tackles the increasingly bizarre state of the world with equal parts anger, sarcasm and stubborn optimism. "Free Speech Zone" takes aim at threats to civil liberties, "Old Wounds" deals with the lasting weight of trauma, while "Bubbles" somehow finds room for hope amid all the noise.

Furious, nervous and deliberately awkward - hardcore punk for anyone who prefers things a little less predictable.
