Death Valley Girls return with one of their most personal records yet. "Welcome to Earth" grew out of a brutal period for singer and songwriter Bonnie Bloomgarden, who lost her Altadena home in California's Eaton Fire, followed soon afterwards by her beloved dog Tommy. And while grief and loss run right through the album, thankfully this isn't some bloody miserable exercise in staring at the floor - Death Valley Girls turn all that darkness into something surprisingly joyful, warm and life-affirming.

Musically they're still unmistakably Death Valley Girls: fuzzy psychedelic rock'n'roll and space-rock, girl-group harmonies, hazy guitars, big communal chants and ridiculously infectious choruses. Twenty-three guest singers appear across the record, including a children's choir, while "Basic Witch" features Seth Bogart and jazz singer Gretchen Parlato also makes an appearance. It's bigger and more communal sounding than before, but still has that wonderfully strange Death Valley Girls mix of garage dirt, cosmic weirdness and pop hooks. Sadly, it's also the final DVG recording to feature keyboardist Gregg Foreman, who passed away after contributing to the album.

A heavy story behind it, then, but a record full of hope rather than doom - psychedelic, euphoric and gloriously odd. First pressing on limited coke bottle green vinyl!
