The Embrooks have been messing with the holy trinity of garage, freakbeat and psychedelia since 1996, and they still sound like the mid-'60s never got the memo to bugger off! After their long hibernation ended in 2016, the trio came roaring back with more records, gigs and fuzz, and "Fragments of yesterday" finds them digging even deeper into the good stuff.

This one's a real mixed bag - in the best possible way. "Closed doors" and "That's when happiness began" deliver the raw garage racket, "Love, love, love (thou hast forsaken me)" heads into slightly psychedelic territory, while "My way, it's here" and "(Please) don't ask me anymore" pile on the folk-rock jangle. And when they really wander off the path, there's acoustic acid-folk and all manner of weird gear - celeste, hammered dulcimer, autoharp, trumpet and even bloody recorders! Garage heads they may be, but The Embrooks aren't content to bash out the same three fuzz chords until closing time. A properly adventurous '60s-minded LP with dirt on its boots and its head in the clouds!
