A genuine obscurity from the early German New Wave underground, ERNST's sole privately released album from 1982 finally gets its first proper reissue. Sitting somewhere between NDW and the more angular end of international post-punk, the band took inspiration from Talking Heads, Devo and their contemporaries while giving the whole thing a distinctly German twist.

Particularly great are their German-language adaptations of Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer" and Devo's "Mongoloid", but ERNST were much more than an eccentric covers band. Originals such as "C2H5OH" and "Autonome Einheit" deliver nervous rhythms, wiry guitars and wonderfully oddball vocals that should appeal to fans of early Fehlfarben, Nichts, Au Pairs and the first Cure album.
