Vancouver's PISS aren't exactly interested in making punk comfortable. Their debut album "You Made Me / Skin On Linen" throws noise-punk, poetry, sound collage, performance art and visual art into one confrontational mess, using punk less as a fixed musical formula and more as something to tear apart and rebuild.

At the centre of the record is a childhood shaped by structural and intimate violence, with art-making used as a recurring metaphor for the marks those experiences leave behind. Heavy stuff, certainly, but PISS approach it without turning the record into a bloody lecture. Samples, spoken voices, abrasive guitars and sudden shifts in mood give the whole thing an uneasy, unpredictable quality, while the band can still hit with the direct physical force you'd want from punk rock.
