Team Work began as a long-distance collaboration between Lise of Leipzig's Maraudeur and Ronni of Baton Rouge's Marance, after the two discovered each other's bands through SoundCloud. "Somebody's Gotta Do It" is their debut album, and despite the geographical beginnings, it sounds remarkably like two musicians who have been developing this strange little musical language together for years.

Muscular basslines and dry, woodblock-heavy rhythms form the backbone, surrounded by scratchy guitars, tape loops, samples and softly delivered vocals that frequently disappear into dub effects. At times there's something of ESG's stripped-down dance punk in the grooves, but elsewhere Team Work drift into lo-fi R&B, post-punk, drones and field recordings, with sampled clocks, horns and everyday noises becoming part of the percussion.

It's playful and experimental without turning into hard work - homemade, rhythmically infectious and full of clever little ideas that reveal themselves with repeated listens. A wonderfully odd debut for anyone who likes their post-punk funky, dubby and decidedly DIY.
