Debut album from London's The Tubs, formed from the ashes of Joanna Gruesome by Owen Williams and George Nicholls - and this is one hell of a good mix! "Dead meat" throws post-punk and jangly indiepop together with traditional British folk and Canterbury folk-rock, then gives the whole thing a proper kick up the arse. Think chiming guitars, sharp pop hooks and plenty of urgent strumming, with echoes of Fairport Convention and a young, pissed-off Richard Thompson lurking around the edges.

Songs like "Round the bend" and "Duped" race along beneath Williams' wonderfully sour lyrics, while re-recorded versions of earlier singles "I don't know how it works", "Two person love" and "Illusion" crank things up even further. Little bursts of organ and synth creep in, guitars pile up and Lan McArdle of Ex-Vöid and Joanna Gruesome pops up on backing vocals. Folk rock without the woolly jumpers, indiepop without the twee crap - sharp, bitter, catchy and bloody good!
