Originally recorded around the turn of the millennium but never officially released, "Free Electricity" finally sees the light of day - and proves to be one of Detroit's great lost garage rock albums.

Founded by Bobby Harlow and originally featuring Jack White on guitar, The Go had already established themselves as one of the city's most exciting young bands. For these sessions, the group expanded its sonic palette with contributions from John Olson (Wolf Eyes) and Cary Loren (Destroy All Monsters), resulting in an adventurous blend of garage rock, psychedelic noise and free jazz.

Produced by Matthew Smith and recorded by Jim Diamond at Detroit's legendary Ghetto Recorders, the album is drenched in fuzz guitars, cavernous reverb and hypnotic saxophone, evoking the spirit of the Grande Ballroom at the height of Detroit's late-60s underground. The influences of MC5, The Stooges, Sun Ra and Pharoah Sanders are unmistakable, yet the album never loses its own identity.
