Sweet Baby's "It's A Girl" is one of those records that somehow managed to be hugely influential without ever becoming nearly as famous as it bloody well deserved. Formed in Berkeley in 1986 and deeply rooted in the legendary 924 Gilman Street scene, Sweet Baby helped lay down the melodic side of the East Bay punk sound before half the world had even decided to call the stuff pop punk.

Originally released by Ruby/Slash in 1989, "It's A Girl" is 25 minutes of ridiculously catchy punk rock - fast, funny, scruffy and absolutely stuffed with melodies. "She's From Salinas", "Pathetic", "Year After Year" and the rest sit somewhere between Ramones, Buzzcocks, British Invasion pop and the sound that would soon pour out of the whole Gilman/Lookout! scene. The line-up included Dallas Denery, Matt Buenrostro, Richie Bucher and Sergie Loobkoff, who would later turn up in Samiam and Knapsack.

This official 2026 Sounds Rad edition goes straight back to the original album: all 13 songs, no bonus tracks and no messing around, newly remastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering. The retail pressing comes on mixed pink vinyl. A bloody lovely reissue of an East Bay pop-punk classic that deserves a place right next to all those records it helped inspire!
