Tony Marsico and The Ugly Thingz return with their second album, digging into the good stuff: garage stomp, punk rock'n'roll, ringing Rickenbacker guitars and sweet power-pop harmonies. "Poison Kiss" sounds like the work of guys who've spent most of their lives making this kind of racket and still get a kick out of turning the amps up.

Marsico certainly has the pedigree. From LA punk pioneers The Plugz and the "Repo Man" soundtrack through Cruzados and The Martini Kings, his CV also includes playing with the likes of Bob Dylan, Matthew Sweet, Neil Young, Roger Daltrey, Marianne Faithfull, Divinyls and The Plimsouls. Guitarist Loren Molinare and drummer Rob Klonel bring plenty of history of their own, including The Dogs, Little Caesar, Cruzados and The Hollywood Stars.

Thankfully "Poison Kiss" isn't some veteran-rock victory lap. The Ugly Thingz put all those years to useful purpose, knocking out tough garage rockers alongside jangly guitars and damn catchy harmonies. Punk roots, power-pop hooks and proper rock'n'roll attitude - old hands making a bloody fine noise!
