Before BARRENCE WHITFIELD & THE SAVAGES started tearing up stages and blowing audiences away with their ferocious blend of Rhythm & Blues and Rock'n'Roll, they were already raising hell behind closed doors! "The Basement Tapes 1983-85" digs deep into the Boston band's earliest days, unearthing a mighty fine collection of home recordings, live performances and studio cuts from their wild formative years!

Side A takes us right back to the original lineup's home recordings, made before the band had even played its first gig or entered a proper recording studio. Flip the record and there's more early madness, captured live and in the studio. Barrence himself is already screaming his lungs out like a man possessed, Peter Greenberg rips through the guitar parts, Steve LaGrega blows up a storm on sax, and Phil Lenker and Howie Ferguson keep the whole glorious racket rolling along. Raw, greasy, hard-driving R&B and Rock'n'Roll, with one killer after another!

And don't let the word "basement" fool you: these recordings may be rough around the edges, but they've been carefully mastered from the original tapes. Fifteen tracks of prime SAVAGES action, strictly limited to 500 vinyl copies. If you dig the band's early records, THE SONICS, THE WAILERS and the wilder side of 50s R&B, you know what to do. ESSENTIAL STUFF!
