One of the defining records of Peruvian chicha. Formed in Huancayo in 1981, Los Shapis combined cumbia with Andean musical traditions, electric guitars and an instantly recognisable melodic style that helped popularise the emerging chicha sound throughout Peru.

Their debut "Los Auténticos" captures that sound in its purest form - bright, expressive lead guitars weave around infectious cumbia rhythms while Julio Simeón's distinctive vocals bring a strong Andean character to songs of love, heartbreak and everyday life. Tracks such as "El Aguajal", "Borrachito Borrachón" and "Mi Tallercito" became enduring favourites.

Originally released in 1981, "Los Auténticos" remains a great entry point into classic Peruvian chicha - colourful, melodic and wonderfully guitar-heavy.
