New Orleans has always had its own way of making rock'n'roll sound a little dirtier, a little looser and a lot more fun. On "Florida Water Blues", Twisted Teens mix ragged punk energy with jangly guitars, country swagger and a healthy dose of classic power pop, creating an album that feels equally at home in a sweaty club or cruising down a Louisiana back road.

Hints of The Kinks, early Rolling Stones, Reigning Sound and the Buzzcocks run through these songs, but the band never sounds like a throwback. Sharp hooks meet scrappy guitars, twangy melodies collide with garage rock attitude, and every chorus seems designed to stick in your head long after the record has stopped spinning. There's plenty of Southern charm here, but it's delivered with the urgency of a punk band rather than the polish of a country act.

"Florida Water Blues" is another infectious collection of rough-edged rock'n'roll from one of New Orleans' most entertaining underground bands. Loud enough for the garage, catchy enough for repeat plays.
