Mophing People are the Japanese duo of Makoto Miyoshi of Rumania Montevideo and Litsuko, formerly of Shonen Knife, and "Res Andres" is their second full-length album. Their basic trick is a bloody good one: pile roaring guitars, shoegaze fuzz and lo-fi noise on top of melodies catchy enough to survive all of it.

This time around they stretch the formula considerably further. Opener "Movin' On" is almost ridiculously immediate power-pop, while elsewhere the duo bounce between noisy indie rock, shoegaze, grunge and even touches of math rock without losing that distinctly Japanese knack for a great melody. Loud when it needs to be, sweet when it wants to be and refreshingly difficult to shove into one particular box.

Released by Topsy-Turvy Records, "Res Andres" is a neat collision of noise and pop - and proof that having one foot in Shonen Knife territory doesn't necessarily mean doing the obvious thing with the other!
